Four makeshift bio labs are erected in Guangzhou Gymnasium, South China's Guangdong Province on Wednesday morning.
One lab opened on Tuesday. The three others under construction are set to open on Thursday. They are the first such makeshift bio labs in Guangdong Province since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020.
Each 210-square meter lab has three areas: reagent preparation, sample processing and amplification. Automatic devices fill the samples and extract the nucleic acid.
The four labs will be able to extract nucleic acid from more than 120,000 test tubes per day, a step change for testing capability in Guangzhou and nearby regions.
