London streets are empty as millions in the UK face new COVID-19 restrictions after officials detected a new variant of the virus spreading.

All non-essential businesses are closed and only essential travel is allowed.

Health officials believe the new variant spreads quicker.

Other countries are already confirming new cases of the variant.
