In response to the fifth flood this year, the Changjiang Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources once again dispatched the upstream reservoir group, and plans to use the 3.5 billion cubic meters of reservoir capacity of Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Wudongde and other reservoirs to intercept floods in the Sichuan-Chongqing reach and the Three Gorges Reservoir. It is expected to reduce the peak flow of about 70,000 cubic meters per second to about 68,000 cubic meters per second.
At 4 pm on August 17, the Three Gorges Reservoir increased its discharge flow to 44,000 cubic meters per second to control the risks in the middle and lower reaches.
Affected by continuous heavy rain in recent days, the water level at Cuntan Hydrological Station (Chongqing Jiangbei) on the upper reaches of the Changjiang River stopped falling and rebounded.
At 2 pm on August 17, the water level rose to 50,400 cubic meters per second, and the Changjiang River saw its fifth flood in 2020.
On August 18, 2020, river water leaked through the flood discharge hole of the Three Gorges Dam.
