Wenzhou 'moves' online classroom to Italy

“How to fight against the epidemic staying at home?” The classroom on the knowledge of COVID-19 prevention and control was started as scheduled on the platform of Silicon Valley School of Wenzhou Daily, lectured by Lin Xiaojun, a teacher of Wencheng County Experimental Primary School, at 8:00 pm of March 14 Beijing time (1:00 pm of March 14 Italian time). The first batch of over 60 children of overseas Chinese compatriots from Chinese Language School in Rome of Italy was interacting with the teacher in Wenzhou on the same screen in the Cloud Classroom of Silicon Valley School and learn the knowledge on COVID-19 prevention and control.

Since the last third of February, the COVID-19 was spread quickly in the world. The epidemic situation in Italy was also worrying. Cities were blocked, factories and schools were closed. Italy’s prevention and control measures were upgraded as the situation became rather severe. There are over 300,000 Chinese people in Italy, 40% of whom are from Wenzhou.

After learning about the wish, the online education platform run by Wenzhou Daily--Silicon Valley School worked with Wenzhou Municipal External Cultural Exchange Association, Wencheng Base of Wenzhou Municipal Overseas Communication Center and Wenzhou (Wencheng) Network Culture Overseas Communication Base to release the program of “Fighting the epidemic with intelligent rescue from Wenzhou--Cloud classroom for children of overseas Chinese compatriots” at the first moment. The program established an online lecture platform for children of overseas Chinese compatriots and invited local renowned teachers and epidemic prevention and control experts of Wenzhou to offer online activities such as lectures on epidemic prevention knowledge and national and local conditions education.
