The “Belt and Road” Initiative International Think Tank, CASS is a policy research and advisory body directly affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). Its main responsibilities are to deepen the "Belt and Road" Initiative proposed by the Chinese President Xi Jinping, to provide scientific, objective, specific, comprehensive, timely, professional and accurate investigations and research findings for the construction of "Belt and Road", and to offer policy recommendations and decision reference for CPC Central Committee and the State Council.

Since its establishment in August 2017, the think tank has been given full play to the important role of “Belt and Road Initiative” in optimizing the global governance system and promoting world economic growth, focusing on strategic, overall and trending issues, and providing professional research findings and recommendations. With “Extensive Consultation, Joint Contribution and Shared Benefits” as its main principles, with “policy coordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds” as goals, the think tank is committed to work with think tanks and research institutions of “Belt and Road” countries and regions, to promote the construction and development of the “Belt and Road”.

Relying on the advantages of the high-level think tank platform of CASS, the think tank has formed an expert panel composed of academic experts at home and abroad, and an international research team with deep policy insights. The think tank has presided over or participated in many major national-level research projects as well as regional development strategies and planning research, and has achieved many constructive achievements in promoting the “Belt and Road” Initiative. As the global development enters into an era of change, the think tank will continue to carry out pioneering work, contribute suggestions, build consensus, promote the construction of the “Belt and Road”, and strive to achieve more efficient “extensive consultation”, more effective “joint construction” and more rewarding “shared benefits”.
