GENEVA, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Organising Committee of the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon (YOGOC) unveiled the mascot "Moongcho" on Thursday, with one year until the start of the competition.

Moongcho comes from the Korean word "Moongchida", which means to bring together various thoughts and powers. The mascot is a snowball emanating from a fight between Soohorang and Bandabi, the mascots of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) website, "Moongcho is a leader with lots of passion and courage who always reaches out his hand to help."

IOC President Thomas Bach was quoted as saying, "The unveiling of the mascot is always an important milestone, and with just one year to go today, we can be confident that the youth of the world will have an outstanding experience during their time in Gangwon."

The YOGOC also released the official song, "We Go High", and an accompanying choreography was also performed for the first time at an event in PyeongChang on Thursday.
