Beijing encourages flexible work during Winter Olympics

Beijing authorities are encouraging flexible working methods such as working from home, telecommuting and staggered rush hour plans to limit the overall traffic volume for the upcoming Winter Olympics and Paralympics, according to a media conference on Friday.

The transportation department is calling for green and low-carbon travel, urging citizens to give priority to public transport, reduce the use of private cars, and comply with the regulations on the management of Olympic lanes and yeilding to Olympic security vehicles.

Stricter driving restriction based on license plate numbers will be imposed if air pollution is predicted during the Olympics. Medium and heavy trucks shall not be allowed to run on the road except for those involved in sports events, people's livelihood and emergency rescue.
