BEIJING, June 8 (Xinhua) -- The Beijing Ice Training Base in Yanqing district of Beijing is 95 percent of the finished, and will be completed by the end of this month, local authorities said on Monday.

The base has a planned area of more than 8 hectares, including a comprehensive training hall, teaching management apartment and other ancillary facilities. The pavilion is a combination of a rounded square and a semicircle, with eight full-size ice rinks and a seating capacity of 2,000 spectators.

"All the venues in the base are built according to the standards of Winter Olympic Games, which can support teaching, training, medical treatment and living quarters for Olympic events," said Yang Xin, head of Ice Training Base Project of Beijing UNi-Construction Group.

The modeling of the comprehensive training hall reflects the integration of ice and snow elements. The four corners of the east area are designed to resemble oval surfaces like ice. The appearance of the west area pavilion is integrated with hockey elements, with components on the sloping facade resembling rows of hockey sticks.

"All eight ice rinks at the base use ethylene glycol as the medium for ice making. It uses less energy and the rink is fully Olympic standard," Yang said.

"In the future, Yanqing district will promote the construction of snow and ice facilities and popularize winter sports in order to be a "city of ice and snow," said Ma Zhiyong, deputy director of the Yanqing district Bureau of Sports.

Located in northern Beijing, more than 70 percent of Yanqing district is mountainous. It will host Alpine skiing, bobsleigh and luge competitions during the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
