MELBOURNE, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Xinyu saw her Australian Open run end on Monday as she lost in straight sets to American No. 4 seed Amanda Anisimova in the fourth round.

After a tight first set, Anisimova took control at John Cain Arena to win 7-6 (4), 6-4 in 1 hour, 42 minutes.

"I'm feeling great, what a battle in tough conditions against a really good opponent," Anisimova said.

Wang was China's last remaining singles player in the draw.

Wang will leave Melbourne with confidence after matching her best Grand Slam result, following a runner-up finish to Elina Svitolina in Auckland earlier this month.

The world No. 46 is also set to rise to No. 33 in the WTA rankings, one place below her career high set in 2023.

Wang was eventually outplayed by Anisimova in a match featuring heavy baseline hitting and long rallies.

Anisimova remains on course for a first Grand Slam title after a breakthrough 2025 that included runner-up finishes at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

Serve dominated the first set, with Wang matching Anisimova's power. Anisimova also had to change her shoe during the set after breaking a shoelace.

Anisimova raised her level in the tiebreaker and took the set with a crosscourt backhand winner.

Wang took a medical timeout early in the second set but continued to fight before Anisimova closed out the match with an ace to reach the quarterfinals.

Anisimova will next play compatriot Jessica Pegula, who ended defending champion Madison Keys' title defense with a straight-sets win.
