Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), has been following the competitions at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
Meanwhile, he spoke highly of China's winter sports development, shared his expectations for the 2027 Winter World University Games in Changchun and expressed his best wishes for the Year of the Horse, during an interview with CGTN Sports Scene's Shen Xiang.
Eder said he is very glad to see many student-athletes compete at the Winter Olympics in Italy, viewing their emergence as a good sign for the Universiade's development.
The 2027 edition of the event will take place in Changchun, northeast China's Jilin Province. Back in 2007, Changchun and Jilin co-hosted the Asian Winter Games. The FISU chief is convinced that prior experience will be a nice advantage as Changchun puts on the 2027 Winter Universiade.
Eder adds that he is not surprised that China has so many destinations for snow and ice sports. He insisted that one of the keys to developing winter sports globally is providing knowledge exchange opportunities among various countries.
Four years ago, China's capital Beijing staged the Winter Games, becoming the first dual Olympic host city. The FISU leader hailed the legacies from that edition.
Eder concluded the interview by sending out his best wishes to Chinese people, ahead of the upcoming Spring Festival.
