China's players enjoyed a strong start at the International Table Tennis Federation Men's and Women's World Cup in Macao SAR (Special Administrative Region) as all seven paddlers in action, including Sun Yingsha, Chen Xingtong and Wang Manyu, claimed victories to open the group stage on Monday.
World No. 1 and defending champion Sun cruised to a 11-3, 11-4, 11-9 victory over Chinese Taipei's Li Yu-Jhun in their first-ever singles meeting.
"To be honest, she played really well on those three points," Sun said of her opponent's late attempt to rally. "I mixed up my serves a bit at the table, made some adjustments, and tried different things. Her returns were solid, and the competition was still intense out there. I had a strong desire to win."
