China's Wang Zhiyi and Shi Yuqi both made impressive strides to reach the quarterfinals at the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, east China's Zhejiang Province, on Thursday.

Wang faced off against India's P.V. Sindhu in a highly-anticipated showdown, with the pair having evenly split their previous six meetings.

The first game saw Wang initially build a 15-10 lead, only for Sindhu to start closing the gap. Displaying tactical finesse, Wang then focused on the finer details to minimize Sindhu's scoring opportunities, ultimately claiming the opener 21-18.

One game away from victory, Wang continued to display relentless determination, refusing to ease up on her efforts. After resisting Sindhu's onslaught at the start of the second game, she resolutely seized control, allowing her opponent very few chances. Wang sealed the deal 21-8, advancing with a commanding 2-0 victory.

In men's action, Chinese second seed Shi Yuqi cruised past Lee Cheuk Yiu of China's Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region), prevailing decisively 21-11, 21-10. Shi's dominant frontcourt control and powerful backcourt smashes kept Lee at a disadvantage throughout the match, ensuring a seamless journey into the last eight.
