Five Chinese athletes advanced to medal contests on the third day of the Asian Judo Championships in Ordos, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, finishing with two golds, one silver and two bronzes. Saturday's haul marked the host nation's best performance at the continental competition in recent years.
Both titles were earned on the women's side. The under-78kg final saw China's Wu Hongtao trail early, while the UAE's Yelyzaveta Lytvynenko set the pace from the beginning of the match.
With just 27 seconds left on the clock, however, Wu found an opening and launched a decisive throw to turn the contest on its head and snatch a stunning victory. Lytvynenko settled for silver, while the bronze medals went to Uzbekistan's Barchinoy Kodirova and Kazakhstan's Aruna Jangeldina.

China's second gold came in the women's over-78kg division. Niu Xinran faced the Republic of Korea's world number one Lee Hyeonji in a tightly-contested final that remained level through regulation time. That brought up a golden score overtime period which saw Niu take the match to the ground and lock in a hold to clinch the title. Mongolia's Diya-rusen Amarsaikhan and Uzbekistan's Umida Nigmatova claimed the bronze medals.
In the men's 90kg category, China's Buhe Bilige faced the Republic of Korea's Kim Jong-hoon in the final. After a full four-minute bout, Buhe Bilige lost by a narrow margin and settled for silver.
China's two bronze medals on the men's side were picked up by Huang Fuchun in the under-100kg division and Li Haiyang in the over-100kg weight class.
