PARIS, May 26 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhang Shuai and Zhang Zhizhen both suffered first-round defeats at the 2026 French Open on Tuesday, ending their campaigns at Roland Garros earlier than hoped.

37-year-old Zhang Shuai fell 6-4, 6-2 to Ann Li of the United States in one hour and four minutes.

Before their French Open encounter, Zhang had lost all three previous matches to Li. The defeat also marked Zhang's fourth straight first-round exit in Grand Slam main draws since last year's Wimbledon Championships.

Despite her singles exit, Zhang will continue competing at the tournament in two doubles events, partnering with Elise Mertens in women's doubles and Tim Putz in mixed doubles.

In the men's singles, Argentine qualifier Facundo Diaz Acosta defeated Zhang Zhizhen in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3, to claim his first-ever main draw victory at the French Open and the third Grand Slam match win of his career.
