Klopp's appointment was widely expected for weeks and his contract will run through the end of the 2030 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with three matches also scheduled for South America during the tournament's 100th anniversary edition.

The 59-year-old coach spoke publicly of his desire to take on the role, after predecessor Julian Nagelsmann resigned earlier in July.

Nagelsmann shouldered the blame following a disappointing round-of-32 defeat against Paraguay, which marked Germany's third consecutive early exit since last winning the World Cup in 2014.

As the DFB's preferred candidate, Klopp's willingness to take the job helped accelerate the switch.

"It's a great honor for me to be sitting here today," he said at a press conference called by the DFB to announce his appointment in Frankfurt. "This is ideally the high point of my career, of my life, my professional life. I will give it everything I have."

But he also issued a stark warning to the assembled journalists.

"If tomorrow you start saying 'he's crap,' then I'm out," the often-outspoken bench boss minced no words in proclaiming.

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf said Klopp's contract will start on August 15 and run until the summer of 2030.

The challenges facing Klopp and his staff are numerous, as they set about rebuilding Die Mannschaft around the talented 23-year-old duo of Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala.

Joshua Kimmich has worn the captain's armband since the fall of 2024, but will be 33 when UEFA Euro 2028 gets underway two summers from now.

Klopp's hotly-anticipated first squad will suit up in less than two months, with the next international break boasting four UEFA Nations League matches, highlighted by his touchline debut against the Netherlands on September 24.
