BUENOS AIRES, July 24 (Xinhua) -- River Plate has reached an agreement to sign former Atletico Madrid winger Angel Correa from Mexico's Tigres UANL, the Argentine club said on Friday.

The 31-year-old agreed to a deal that runs until December 2029 for an undisclosed fee.

"The forward will undergo the corresponding medical examination in order to sign his contract and become a player for the club," River Plate said in a statement.

Correa scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists in 54 appearances for Tigres following his July 2025 move from Atletico Madrid.

He becomes River's sixth signing of the Argentine winter transfer window, joining Nicolas Otamendi, Rafael Santos Borre, Lucas Beltran, Mauro Arambarri and Giovanni Gonzalez.

Meanwhile, River Plate announced the departure of Colombia international midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero by mutual consent.

Quintero scored five goals and provided seven assists in 40 games after joining River for a third time in July 2025. He also represented the club across separate spells in 2022 and from 2018 to 2020.
