MADRID, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Matthew Brennan of Visma-Lease a Bike underlined his sprint dominance with his third stage win of this year's Vuelta a Espana on Wednesday, taking victory in the 11th stage.

The 21-year-old Briton finished ahead of Bryan Coquard of Cofidis and Jordi Meeus of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe after a perfect lead-out from teammate Wout van Aert at the end of the 153.8-kilometer route from Cartagena to Lorca.

The largely flat stage featured crosswinds that kept the peloton alert, a third-category climb about 40 kilometers from the finish and a tricky 180-degree turn with 400 meters remaining.

Van Aert and Brennan took the inside line through the sharp turn to enter the final straight at the front. Brennan then accelerated from behind his teammate with around 150 meters remaining and used his speed to comfortably hold off Coquard and Meeus.

There was no change in the overall standings, with Enric Mas of Movistar retaining the red jersey and his one-minute, 18-second lead over Primoz Roglic of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe.

Thursday's 12th stage provides a stern mountain test, with two first-category climbs and a summit finish at Calar Alto. Temperatures are expected to exceed 35 degrees Celsius, adding to the challenge as Mas looks to defend his overall lead.
