China's Tong Xin retains Asian Games taijiquan-taijijian title

NAGOYA, Japan, Sept 20 -- China's Tong Xin retained her women's taijiquan and taijijian all-around title on Sunday as wushu competition got under way at the 2026 Asian Games, while the top two spots in the men's changquan event went to athletes from Macao, China.

Tong finished with a combined score of 19.553 points, adding another Asian Games title after winning the event in Hangzhou three years ago.

She topped the standings in the morning taijiquan competition with 9.770 points before again finishing first in the afternoon taijijian event.

"I am very excited and happy," Tong said after the competition.

Tong's victory delivered China's third gold medal of the Games but she said she had tried not to think about the pressure of defending her title.

"As long as I fully prepared myself beforehand and showed the best of myself, that was enough. I didn't really think about the pressure when I was competing," she said.

Tong said greater experience had made her more composed than when she made her Asian Games debut in Hangzhou.

"At the previous Asian Games, it was my first time competing and I was relatively inexperienced. After several years of training and experience, I feel much more composed now," she said.

"In the past, I focused more on how the movements looked, such as whether a posture was correct or where the hands should be placed," she added.

In the men's changquan competition, Kuong Chi Hin from Macao, China won gold with 9.723 points, securing the delegation's first gold medal of the Games.
