Lin wins men's singles for third gold as China takes six table tennis titles

NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's Lin Shidong swept compatriot Wang Chuqin 4-0 to win the men's singles title and also his third gold here as table tennis competition concluded at the 2026 Asian Games on Monday.

China also took the women's doubles title, with Kuai Man and Wang Manyu beating Japan's Miwa Harimoto and Hina Hayata 4-0.

Lin made a strong start in the men's singles final, taking the first two games 11-5, 11-8. He trailed 11-10 in the third but reeled off three straight points to win 13-11 before taking the fourth 11-5 to capture his first Asian Games singles gold.

"I didn't expect to win 4-0. I was able to attack well and connect my shots effectively," Lin said.

The final was Lin's 20th match of the Games after he also competed in men's team, men's doubles and mixed doubles events. He had already won two gold medals in mixed and men's doubles and a silver in men's team before Monday's final.

"This is my first Asian Games, so there was a lot of uncertainty," Lin said. "The intensity was very high, the pressure was huge, and the opponents were all very strong. All I could do was focus on myself and take it one point at a time."

Chinese Taipei's Lin Yun-ju and Iran's Noshad Alamiyan took bronze.

In the women's doubles final, Kuai and Wang made a blistering start by winning the opening game 11-0 before edging a tighter second 12-10.

The Chinese pair took the next two games 11-4, 11-9 to complete the victory in 36 minutes.

Doo Hoi Kem and Ng Wing Lam from Hong Kong, China and Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabut and Orawan Paranang took bronze.

The victory gave both Kuai and Wang their third gold medals of the Games. China had earlier won the women's team title, while Wang defeated compatriot Sun Yingsha 4-2 in Sunday's women's singles final.

"I think both of us were in good form this time, and we were able to make a good run through the team, singles and women's doubles events," Wang said. "I gained different experiences and learned different things from each event."

China finished the table tennis competition with six of the seven gold medals available, missing out only the men's team title. China also collected four silvers and one bronze, while Japan finished with one gold, three silvers and three bronzes.
