Beijing's Yanqing district, one of the three competition zones for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, held large-scale exercises on Monday to ensure safe and smooth transportation during the Games, the local government said.

They covered nine areas including epidemic prevention and control, transportation at sports venues, transitions and evacuation, risk response and the speed of security inspections.

When conducting the tests, the government set up many scenarios and simulated what might happen during the Games, including how to rapidly deal with traffic accidents and prevent and control the spread of novel coronavirus.

"We wish to test the quality and efficiency of transportation service in the competition zone via these exercises, in order to provide more accurate data and better personnel experience for follow-up evaluation and to make adjustments for the coming Games," a Yanqing district government official said.

Located in northwestern Beijing, the Yanqing competition zone will host the Alpine skiing, bobsleigh and luge competitions.
