FIFA president vows to support Sudan in football infrastructures

KHARTOUM, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- President of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, on Monday vowed to support the Sudan Football Association and help rehabilitate football infrastructures in the country.

Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan received at the Republican Palace on Monday the visiting FIFA president.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Infantino said the FIFA would work with the Sudan Football Association to rehabilitate Khartoum International Stadium.

"We need to work together, and we will work together with the federation, with the government, to reform this stadium to make it shine and make Sudan proud of the stadium," said Infantino.

He further said his meeting with Al-Burhan reviewed the football situation in Sudan under the coronavirus pandemic.

He commended Sudan's historical role in the establishment of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and its hosting of the first tournament of the African Cup of Nations.

Infantino also called for supporting women's football which is a great concern for FIFA.

Infantino arrived in Khartoum on Monday on his first visit to Sudan.
