BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The leading figure of the Chinese women's table tennis team, Liu Shiwen, has dropped out of the WTT Macao 2020.
The event, organized by the sports bureau of the Macao special administrative region's government and World Table Tennis (WTT), is being held from 25th to 29th this month.
WTT was set up by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) in August 2019. WTT Macao 2020 is the first event to be held by WTT since its inception by the ITTF this year. It includes men's and women's singles, featuring many of the world's top players.
Liu has been actively training to prepare for a return, so the news comes as a shock to fans.
Liu won the title of the Best Female Athlete of the Year from ITTF in 2015 and 2019 respectively.
