The Italian side disclosed that Paolo, the club's technical director, became aware of contact with a person who subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 and began to display symptoms of the virus himself.

"Paolo Maldini administered with a swab test yesterday, the result of which was positive. His son Daniel, a forward in AC Milan's youth team who had previously been training with the first team, also tested positive," read a statement.

According to the Rossoneri, both will continue to be kept in isolation in line with suggestions from health authorities.

"Paolo and Daniel are both well and have already completed two weeks at home without contact with others. They will now remain in quarantine until clinically recovered, as per the medical protocols outlined by the health authorities."

Italy has been badly hit by COVID-19, with 4,825 deaths as of March 21. The military has been deployed to help enforce a lockdown in the country's worst-hit northern regions.
