BAKU, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A brace from Xherdan Shaqiri helped Switzerland to keep their last 16 hopes alive after easing past Turkey 3-1 in the Euro 2020 Group A at Baku Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer was busy for the remainder of the first half but still Vladimir Petkovic's men were able to make it 2-0 through Shaqiri at the half hour mark.
Resilient Turkey eventually halved the deficit after the restart when Irfan Can Kahveci at last overcame Sommer in the 62nd minute.
However, it was a short-lived joy for Turkey as clinical Switzerland showed no mercy and restored their two-goal lead after Shaqiri sealed his double strike six minutes later.
With the result, Switzerland must wait to find whether they have done enough for a last 16 ticket. Italy (9 points) finish atop the standings in Group A followed by Wales (4 points), Switzerland (4 points) and Turkey (0 points).
