A football team in England has become the first of its kind to employ an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool as a coach, according to the Daily Mail.
In a match scheduled for Saturday, seventh-tier Wingate & Finchley will use the AI to pick the team's starting line-up and tactics in their match against Whitehawk FC. The AI can provide strategies before and during the game and learns from the experience.
Dave Norman, the manager of Wingate & Finchley, believes the AI will be a good tactical aid for the team. "The fundamentals of football are exactly the same whether they come from a virtual coach or a human one."
The use of AI technology in sport looks set to expand, as big data and smart learning technology becomes increasingly available for use in areas such as on-field tactics and player training.
