A security team from Chinese conglomerate Alipay won the 2019 KDD Cup, known as the "World Cup" of AI data mining, in the US on Wednesday.

More than 1,600 teams competed, Xinhua News Agency reported.

KDD, which is short for Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, is the top international competition in the field of data mining. It has been held for more than 20 consecutive years and attracts teams from Google, Microsoft, Facebook every year.

The Alipay security team said that security is the company's lifeline, and account security has always been the focus. For more than 10 years, transaction risks have been as low as one ten-millionth, far lower than that of its international counterparts. A set of deep data mining, machine learning algorithm applications and AI automatic modeling experiences has been precipitated during the process, and Alipay also possesses the ability to automatically learn when faced with new risks.

In 2005, Alipay launched a user security system, committing "you dare to pay, I dare to pay", promising full payment in case the account is stolen. This year, Alipay upgraded it to "compensate instantly and in advance", meaning that payment can arrive to the account in a second when the user's complaint is confirmed by AI. Compensation will also be given at the first sign of doubt. Behind this feature is the AI application capability, which won the championship at the KDD CUP and protects 1 billion people.
