The alliance was initiated by the National Microbial Data Center, which was jointly established by the CAS and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The center has been working on microbiological data collection for more than 30 years. It has received data from 120 microbiological culture collections in 46 countries for data collection and global sharing.

The alliance summons societies, journals, research institutes and major sequencing institutes in the field of microbiology.

According to Ma Juncai, director of the center, the alliance members will work together to establish data standards, quality control systems, distribution channels and cloud environments.

Cooperation among the alliance members will promote the development of China's life sciences and biotechnology, said Ma.
