A kick-off meeting on 6G technology research was held Sunday in Beijing, according to China's Ministry of Science and Technology.

To promote the development of China's mobile telecommunication industry and technological innovation, the meeting announced the establishment of the national 6G technology research promotion working group and expert group, marking the official launch of 6G research.

"At present, global 6G technology research is still in the initial stage of exploration," said Wang Xi, vice minister of Science and Technology. "There is no unified definition of key indicators and application scenarios."

Wang stressed that the Ministry of Science and Technology will systematically carry out research on 6G technology with other relevant departments, launch the pre-study of 6G, and explore possible technical development directions, so as to lay a solid scientific and technological foundation for the advance of the mobile telecommunication industry and the construction of an innovative country.
