Green walls, also known as vertical gardens or living walls, are enjoying growing popularity nowadays, since they can act as natural air purifiers especially to tackle urban environmental issue.

But who are the creators behind these walls. CGTN has met with Chinese man Wang Yuheng, who has dedicated himself to creating unique plants walls.

When Wang takes care of his green walls, it seems like it's just him and his plants, and the whole world disappears.

"Plants are my teachers. Most of the plants I choose are ferns. They have been with us for hundreds of millions of years. These primordial plants have strong vitality. I love the simplicity of these non-flowering plants. They don't try to gain attention with gorgeous flowers, and they can usually adapt to the stuffy and humid indoor climate," said Wang, the creator of two green walls at a fashion shop in Beijing.

Wang has always understood plants all too well ever since he was a child. And he's got his own criteria in creating these green walls.

"It's not only about money. First, I need to select the proper location. I will consider its ventilation, light condition and drainage system. I usually tell people that I create green walls with feet instead of hands. I also need to think about the combination of different plants, whether they could stay alive after half a year or a year. All of these are uncertain factors," he explained his unique standards.

It's not just about scientific methods, but rather about forging emotional bonds with these living walls. Wang shares a touching story about these walls with CGTN.

"After hearing that the green wall would be removed from this shop, I felt so sad. Then, I talked with the shop owner, asking if it could be kept. And I proposed to create another wall here, so the two of them may one day get linked together and not be alone. The owner agreed and said he was also a plant lover, but just hadn't got a better solution. Later I named the new wall 'Reunion after long separation'."

When Wang Yuheng takes care of his green walls, it seems like the world is just between him and his plants.

And these are just two out of his 10 green walls created across China, more are coming later this year.

Back in 2015, the public first got to know Wang Yuheng for correctly recognizing a specific glass of water out of 520 in a Chinese talent show called "Super Brain". And he managed to do that partially blind in one eye.

So are there any links between your observation ability and how these green walls work? Wang said on to that correlation.

"I don't have one more eye than others  and my eyesight is not even as good as many people. I just gaze at the plants more than others. So I can notice the changes in different plants. These changes usually mean a lot. For example, why there are so many holes on certain types of plants."

Wang said he hasn't got ambitious plans about future works or anxieties over his eye problem. Life just goes on for him and his green walls.
