London (People's Daily) - China's BeiDou satellite system was added to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System at a meeting of the International Maritime Organization Maritime Safety Committee in London earlier this month.

The BeiDou Message Service System became the third global maritime distress and safety communication provider to enhance safety at sea following British and US satellite communications companies Inmarsat and Iridium.
