China's number of 5G users increase rapidly

China has seen a rapid increase in 5G users, with the amount of 5G users reaching 634 million, accounting for 37.1 percent of mobile phone users, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The construction of 5G base stations nationwide has developed rapidly in recent year, with 2.733 million completed.

The data also shows China’s revenue from its telecommunication businesses has reached 569.9 billion yuan ($81.2 billion) in the first quarter of 2023, up 7.2 percent year-on-year.

By the end of April, the total number of mobile phone users with the three basic telecommunication companies — China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom — reached 1.707 billion.

In terms of the scale of fixed Broadband Width Access (BWA) users, the total number of subscribers from the three basic telecommunication companies reached 608 million, a net increase of 18.11 million compared to the end of last year, with users accessing the “Gigaband” accounting for nearly 20 percent.
