The Palace Museum and Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, announced a new plan of museum digitization for the next three years under a strategic cooperation relationship on Monday.

They reached an agreement to deepen cooperation on museum digitization, create intellectual property and preserve cultural relics. Focusing on digital innovation and AI technology, the two sides will work closely on the platform of the first AI lab featuring Chinese traditional culture.

The cooperation dates back three years ago over the Next Idea Tencent Innovation Competition in 2016. The Palace Museum, widely known as the Forbidden City, was the residence of the royal family. It has in recent years become a popular cultural meme among Chinese Internet users by virtue of its integration of culture and digital innovation.
