A video recording the design, manufacture, test and launch of a self-made rocket has become a hit on Chinese internet. The video has attracted more than a million views and over 6,000 comments.

The rocket was designed by Liu Shang, an aerospace engineering student at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He came up with the idea during the pandemic lockdown when schools moved to online learning. He underwent several failures before successfully launching it. He posted more than 30 videos on the process.

Many people expressed their admiration of him after seeing the video. “The potential of the young generation is really unlimited,” read one comment.

“I have always been drawn to aero models and rockets, and I’m hoping to turn this life-long passion into a career, ” Liu said. “My ultimate goal is to build a rocket that delivers mail and parcels.”
