One must be good at making time for study, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said at the celebration assembly of the 80th anniversary of the Central Party School and the opening ceremony of its 2013 spring semester on March 1, 2013.

"I often hear some comrades say they want to study, but 'work is too busy and leaves no time for study.' While this might sound somewhat reasonable, it is by no means a justification for slacking off in study."
Xi advocates that we should learn what our work requires and fill in the gaps in our knowledge.
During his time working in local government, the first thing he did whenever he arrived at a new post was to read the local chronicles, gaining an understanding of history to grasp the key local conditions.
While serving in Zhejiang, he even required officials to memorize works of local classical literature, aiming to deepen their understanding of the local history and culture.
He noted that one should choose books closely related to one's work and aligned with personal interests, emphasizing the importance of accumulating knowledge step by step and persevering over time to achieve substantial progress.
