Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, inspected the Xiong'an New Area in North China's Hebei Province on Monday, during which he called for efforts to build it into a hub of innovation in the new era and a model of promoting high-quality development.
Since its establishment in April 2017, the Xiong'an New Area has grown from a blueprint into a vibrant, emerging city. Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, has consistently placed strong emphasis on its development, with Monday marking his fourth inspection visit.
He first visited in February 2017 ahead of its establishment, then returned in 2019 to review its overall plan and policy framework.
During his visit in 2023, he stressed that the development of the Xiong'an New Area had entered a phase when the same importance must be attached to both its large-scale construction and its purpose to relieve Beijing of functions non-essential to its role as the national capital.
