Northwestern Beijing's Yanqing district launched colorful events yesterday to embrace the upcoming Duanwu Festival, also known as Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 14 this year, the 5th date of the 5th lunar month.

More than 30 events will be held to celebrate the festival in scenic spots, home-style inns and villages noted for local customs in Yanqing, where people could experience the traditional Chinese culture by making Zongzi (a traditional Chinese food made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves) and Xiang bao, or perfume sachets, drinking realgar wine (xionghuangjiu) and holding dragon boat race.

The Beijing Expo Park, venue of the 2019 International Horticultural Expo, will be free from 6-8 pm during the festival, where visitors could enjoy the expo in the summer breeze while tasting local food and appreciating art of intangible cultural heritage.

A dragon boat race was held on June 6 in the district. Altogether 16 teams performed a fierce competition on Guihe River in Yanqing.

Yanqing's festive activities are part of the 2021 Beijing Consumption Season, which lasts from launch April 28 to the end of this year.
