Shanghai Disneyland is set to begin testing rides at its new Spider-Man-themed section, the park's ninth themed land and its third expansion since opening, Shanghai Disney Resort said Sunday.
The Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or "W.E.B.," will make its Shanghai debut when the park opens its new Spider-Man-themed land, according to the resort. The W.E.B. facility, conceived as a cutting-edge R&D hub where Marvel heroes, inventors and engineers team up to develop and test disruptive technologies, will immerse visitors in a Spider-Man adventure built around creativity and advanced engineering.
The resort's expansion efforts, however, extend well beyond the Spider-Man project. Also in the pipeline are an upgrade to Soaring Over the Horizon, the park's signature attraction, and two new themed hotels adjacent to the park, as well as a residential community for cast members designed to support frontline staff as they deliver unforgettable guest experiences.
Shanghai Disneyland has welcomed more than 100 million guest visits through the end of October 2025, since opening in June 2016.
In 2011, when construction on the Shanghai Disney Resort first began, Shanghai received 230 million domestic visitors and generated tourism revenue of about 278.6 billion yuan (about 41 billion U.S. dollars). By 2025, those numbers had jumped to 416 million domestic visitors and 566.68 billion yuan in revenue, according to local culture and tourism authorities.
China's surging inbound tourism, fueled by expanding visa-free entry policies, has further boosted attendance at Shanghai Disneyland, especially among visitors from Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Southeast Asian countries.
