After the rain, Xinjiang's Kalajun Grassland is wrapped in a drifting sea of cloud mist set against the backdrop of layered rolling mountain ranges. Meaning "vast wildland on mountain ridges" in Kazakh, Kalajun is a prime natural alpine wildflower meadow grassland. Recognized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in the early 1980s as a world-class natural pasture, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List in 2013.
