The first snow of the year arrived in Hami Prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China on September 11. This is the northern part of the grand Tianshan Mountains, a large mountain system that stretches through four countries (China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan) with a length of 2,500 kilometers from east to west.
