The first train departed at 5:28 am at Mong Kok Station on the MTR East Rail Line and arrived at Lok Ma Chau Station at 6:06 am. It is estimated that more than a hundred of travelers from the SAR caught the earliest train to reach the Lok Ma Chau checkpoint at the nearby southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
The opening brings the resumption of quarantine-free travel between the financial hub and the mainland and will be done in a gradual and orderly way.
