TAIPEI, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Travel operators from both sides of the Taiwan Strait expressed their hopes that cross-Strait tourism and exchanges could recover as soon as possible at the ongoing Taipei Tourism Expo.

The four-day event opened on Friday, and is expected to attract about 300,000 visits.

Chan Kin, who heads a local travel agency King Tour, learned about the operation of cross-Strait air routes at the expo and said that people in Taiwan desire to go sightseeing on the mainland.

Group tours of Taiwan residents to the mainland operated by travel agencies have resumed since May 19.

At the booth of the mainland-based Association for Tourism Exchange Across the Taiwan Strait, many Taiwan visitors were inquiring about tourist destinations on the mainland.

"As tourism exchanges across the Strait were hindered by the epidemic for more than three years, openness and exchange are the common wishes of our staff. It is also the broad consensus of the people in the tourism industry on both sides," said Ren Jiayan, director of the association's Taipei office.
