Inaugurated last May, a women’s motorbike police unit in Ningbo, East China’s Zhejiang Province is a young team made up of 12 female officers. Their age ranges from 23 to 39, averaging 28.
Although established merely less than a year ago, these women patrol a combined distance of more than 60 km on a daily basis, have dealt with nearly 10,000 traffic violations, and no fewer than 1,000 road accidents and traffic congestions. They ensure safe and effective traffic flow during the municipal-level “two sessions”, the China-CEEC Expo, and the Global Ningbo Community and Development Partnership Conference. The unit also held some 50 public events to raise awareness of road safety in communities and colleges.
