During a visit to a primary school on Wednesday in Wenming township, a Yao ethnic group area in Hunan Province, a passing comment by President Xi Jinping moved many people.
When leaving a classroom, he noticed a girl wearing thick glasses, so he gestured with a smile and said to all students, "Protect your eyes."
"The look was so amiable. The feeling was like he was looking at his granddaughter," a netizen commented under the video on Douyin, a popular Chinese short video platform.
"It was so heartwarming that I was moved to tears," said another.
The video, published on the Douyin account of CCTV News, gathered more than 1.6 million likes within 18 hours.
Xi cares about children's health and has stressed on multiple occasions protecting their eyesight and toughening their bodies.
