On January 26, Sir Danny Alexander, vice president and corporate secretary of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), said in an interview with the People’s Daily at its Beijing headquarters that based upon clear rules and principles of the rule of law, practicing materialism can pool the strength of all and drive countries to row in the same direction toward our common destination.
Alexander has witnessed how AIIB vividly interpreted multilateralism since he joined the AIIB in February 2016. “The regulations and governance system of AIIB are decided by members through negotiations, which ensure the rights and obligations of every member and enable them to take part in decision-making. The rules in AIIB won’t be decided by a single country. If we hope all countries can strive for a common goal, we must highlight the crucial rule of agencies like AIIB which function on the basis of international rules and multilateralism,” he said.
He also pointed out that the past five years marked the rapid development of the AIIB and its positive impact worldwide. The AIIB is now serving as a medium to help people figure out the significance of multilateral management and how agencies practicing multilateralism will affect the world.
