This year marks the 40th anniversary of National Tree Planting Day.
In the past 40 years, China's forest area and forest stock volume have doubled, respectively, and China is home to the world's largest man-made forest, said Chinese President Xi Jinping while attending a tree-planting activity in east Beijing's Tongzhou District, where he planted saplings on Monday. The proportion of China's contribution to the world's vegetation increase also ranked first, Xi noted. With the aim to promoting ecological restoration of major grasslands and the quality of afforestation, local governments in Shaanxi, Gansu, Yunnan and Shandong provinces and Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions have completed many afforestation projects over the decades. Data shows that the green revolution has changed China over the past 34 years in these areas dramatically and reminds everyone in China to involve the whole society in promoting afforestation.
