China’s position on the Ukraine issue is “consistent and clear,” a foreign ministry spokesperson said in Beijing on Friday.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a press briefing on Friday in response to a question about Russian announcements.
“China’s position on the Ukraine issue is consistent and clear that China always respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries,” Mao said. “We believe that all countries deserve respect for their sovereignty and territorial integrity, that the purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be observed, that the legitimate security concerns of any country should be taken seriously and that support should be given to all efforts that are conducive to peacefully resolving the crisis.”
China hoped the parties concerned would properly address differences through dialogue and consultation, Mao said, and that Beijing stood ready to work with members of the international community to play a constructive part in de-escalation.
