China on Wednesday urged the US to stop cyberattacks and secret thefts against other countries.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing in Beijing in response to a question about Chinese spies and hackers allegedly attacking the US.

"The Chinese government has always been unequivocally against hacking attacks and abusing information technologies," Mao said. "The US possesses the most powerful cyber technologies and capabilities in the world and has launched the biggest number of hacking attacks, wiretapping and secret theft against other countries.

Mao said that according to a "recent report," the US launched cyberattacks and theft operations against China's Northwestern Polytechnical University and removed core technical data.

"But the US has yet to offer an explanation," she said.

"The US needs to immediately stop its cyberattacks and secret thefts against other countries and stop making irresponsible accusations against others on cybersecurity."
