The Butterfly Lovers (Liang Zhu)' Violin Concerto is one of the most famous Chinese orchestral works. It is an orchestral adaptation of an ancient legend, the Butterfly Lovers, which is China’s Romeo and Juliet. Written for the Western-style orchestra, it features a solo violin using Chinese techniques. The work is a common feature in concert halls worldwide.

The violinist, Lu Siqing, is the first Asian violinist to win the prestigious International Paganini Violin Competition.
The pianist, Sun Yingdi, is the first Chinese pianist to win First Prize in the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition, and the cellist, Qin Liwei, won First Prize in the prestigious Naumburg Competition.
