France confirmed 1,210 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the nationwide tally to 6,633, including 148 deaths.

French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday that the public will be banned from engaging in any unnecessary activities except to buy food, go to work, and receive medical treatment for the next 15 days.

"We are at war," said Macron, repeating the phrase several times in his televised address to the nation.

Paris has already been prepared to fight this epidemic by shutting down stores, emptying streets and scenic spots.
