The UK confirmed a total of 1,950 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with 69 deaths.
PM Boris Johnson on Monday urged people, especially residents of the hardest-hit London, to avoid "non-essential contact" in fighting the spread of novel coronavirus, which he said is "very disruptive."
Tourist attractions, including the National Portrait Gallery and Tate museums and galleries, declared closures.
Emergency legislation is expected to be passed through by MPs later this week in the fight against coronavirus.
"However tough the months ahead, we have the resolve and the resources to win the fight," Johnson said at a news conference.
